Remembering the Earth Beneath You

Remembering the Earth Beneath You
Before the words, before the noise,
there was only the hum of the earth.
Soft, steady, ancient.
It still sings beneath your feet,
even when you forget to listen.
We spend so much time reaching upward;
for meaning, for progress, for light,
that we sometimes lose the ground that holds us.
But the earth does not ask for effort.
She only asks for presence.
To feel the weight of your body as sacred,
to remember that your breath is shared
with trees, stones, and wind.
Every heartbeat is a drum,
every step a prayer.
You do not walk on the earth,
you walk with her.
When you slow down enough,
you’ll feel her pulse answering yours.
A quiet rhythm,
reminding you:
you belong here.
Come back to the ground.
It has been waiting for you all along.
Reflection
When was the last time you truly felt the earth beneath your feet,
not just noticed it, but connected?
Where in your life do you feel uprooted,
and what helps you return to your natural rhythm?
Write what “grounding” means to you; not as an idea, but as a feeling.
Ritual
Go outside, barefoot if you can.
Stand still.
Breathe deeply until your body begins to soften.
With each exhale, imagine roots growing from your feet;
anchoring you gently into the soil below.
Whisper softly:
I return to the rhythm of the earth.
Stay until you can feel the steadiness beneath you.
Then thank the ground,
for holding you, again and always.
